Prayer Changes Things First United Methodist Church Midtown Sacramento
The Power of Prayer -
God knows what is best for us, even when we do not understand what is happening in our lives.
Jesus Himself taught us to pray “Thy will be done!” Simply put, every Christian prayer must be offered with the understanding that God might have other plans. We need to remember that God will always give us what we need, but He will not always give us what we want. God knows what’s best for us.

Have you ever had a time in your life when you didn’t know whether to turn left your right? Sometimes we don’t know what is best and we struggle with the choices in our lives. Other times we are caught in horrible circumstances beyond our control and we want some assurance that God has not forsaken us.
Well, that’s when the power of prayer is so important. You see, our prayer doesn’t change things. But God’s gift of prayer changes US! The Spirit moves us to pray through faith in Christ and according to God’s will, and the result is that we become new people who trust God and know that He has our best in mind – even when we do not understand His ways.
When the Spirit moves you to pray “Thy will be done” you can always be sure that God will answer your prayer. God will either say “Yes”, “Wait” or “I’ve got something better for you.” In any case, God is giving you what is best.
There IS power in prayer -- and that power is the Holy Spirit who moves us to pray through faith in Christ and according to God’s will. Such prayer changes US into people who seek God’s mercy in Christ and trust that His ways are best.
