Many (if not most) South Koreans strongly believe that Korean culture is superior to (and is better than) Western culture.
If you didn't know already, Korean culture is rooted in shamanism, Chinese civilization (the false philosophies/false religions of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism), collectivism (the herd mentality), authoritarianism and paternalism.
Many South Koreans unthinkingly follow the crowd in doing wrong. Why do they do this? Because "this is Korea" and because "this is the way things are done in Korea" and "if you don't like it, you can leave." In rationalizing their intolerance, bigotry and racial/cultural prejudice, many South Koreans love to say "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" and "if the monk dislikes the temple, the monk should leave the temple." Translation - if you don't like the way things are done here in Korea, you can leave the country. We don't want you here.
In the South Korean church, spiritually abusive and emotionally abusive practices are also accepted as "normal" because "South Korean culture is different from Western culture."
South Korean society is a society which devalues and crushes weakness. South Korean culture is a culture that crushes truly open-ended communication. Koreans only communicate with people who agree with them or people who think the way they think (collectivist herd mentality). Koreans ignore or attack people who don't agree with their opinions. South Koreans frequently make decisions based on "the opinion of the majority." South Koreans seem to think that "the opinion of the majority" is true democracy.
When will South Koreans stop criticizing and condemning people who are seen as being weak? When will South Koreans start to treat people with compassion, dignity and respect? When will South Koreans seek to understand and empathize with people who are different from them?
