adapted in part from Why For? The Quandary and Questions of Suffering - a sermon by Dr. J. Ligon Duncan
God’s grace is unearned and undeserved. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us more and nothing we can do to make Him love us less.
In order to enter into the abundant life that Jesus Christ offers us, we believers must place our lives completely in God’s hands daily, walk in fellowship with Him and abide in His Word.
Sometimes - many times - believers suffer. Sometimes we suffer because of our own sins. Sometimes we suffer because of other people's sins. SOMETIMES, like Job, believers suffer because God is testing their faith.
Can anything GOOD come from our suffering?
First, God purposes to work godliness in you by suffering (Romans 5:3-5)…God purposes to work godliness in you by suffering.
Secondly, God purposes that you would prize Christ more than this world by your suffering…God purposes that you would prize Christ more than this world by your suffering (Philippians 3:8-11).
Third, God purposes to serve the maturity of the whole body of believers through your suffering (Colossians 1:24-29).
And then, God purposes to prepare you for glory through your suffering (II Corinthians 4:7-18).
God will NOT forget the sorrows of his people.
